Every big India show now runs on the same script: the official sale opens, the inventory vanishes in minutes, and the "I have 2 extra, DM me" posts appear before the queue has even cleared.

This winter's calendar, with Diljit Dosanjh's seven-city tour, Guns N' Roses, Fred again.., The Chainsmokers and more, means the scammers are busy too.

This has already gone to the Enforcement Directorate

In October 2024 the ED searched 13 locations across Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Bengaluru in a money-laundering probe into black-market and fake tickets for Coldplay's India shows and Diljit Dosanjh's Dil-Luminati tour. Its press release said people had been selling tickets, including fakes, through Instagram, WhatsApp and Telegram. Phones, laptops and SIM cards were seized. Some Dil-Luminati tickets were reportedly black-marketed for more than ₹85,000.

The same week, the Delhi High Court asked the Centre to respond to a petition seeking a framework for regulated ticket resale.

Five rules before you pay anyone

  1. Know the official seller. For Diljit's Aura India tour, that's BookMyShow. If the seller isn't the platform named by the promoter, assume it's a problem.
  2. Check whether tickets are transferable at all. Many aren't. Tomorrowland Thailand passes are tied to buyer accounts and delivered as personalised bracelets. Wimbledon's conditions let it cancel tickets resold outside its own channels.
  3. Never pay by UPI to an individual for a "ticket screenshot". A screenshot can be sold ten times.
  4. Use the official resale or waitlist if the event has one. It's slower, but it's the only resale that's guaranteed to scan.
  5. If it's urgent, it's a scam. "Only 2 left, pay in 10 minutes" is a pressure tactic, not inventory.

And if you've already been cheated

File a complaint on the national cybercrime portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or call 1930. Do it quickly: the faster a complaint is logged, the better the chance a transaction can be frozen.
